HI All -- An important update here:
Affected Products:
PBE-5AC-300 (including ISO)
PBE-5AC-400 (including ISO)
LBE-5AC-23
Problem Reported: Low received signal strength
Problem Resolution: Unfortunately, no SW answers after many efforts. But, a hardware improvement has been identified and qualified in Ubiquiti internal outdoor test deployments as well as verfieid by several beta testers. The results show received signal strengths closely in line with M5 series.
Does it affect me?: If you have sufficient receive signal strength to obtain higher modulation rates (-70dBm or better), replacement will not significantly improve link performance and is not recommend . For long distance links requiring better received signal strengths (-75dBm or worse), performance should be improved.
What's next? Production with improvements has re-started and inventory for these affected models should be filling channel soon again. In case there are reservations about purchasing through the sales channel, we will temporarily make these affected models available on our online store to ensure latest production can be purhcased. In addition, we will replace feeds free of charge to anyone who would like to trade-in. In this case, contact james@ubnt.com offline.
Ubiquiti and the WISP Industry
Also, on another note, I have seen some sentiment that Ubiquiti might be turning R&D focus away from the Service Provider market. This is definitely not the case. My highest priority right now (and much of the company's resources) is focused on AirMax improvements. In addition to our AirMax AC protocol and mixed-mode capability finally showing greater perfomrance and reliability, we have some exciting "Gen 2" AirMax AC hardware being introduced in the coming months (our best WISP hardware to date in my opinion), a huge wave of software updates from mobile to controller, an entire new technology platform for the ISP Industry, and best of all, a very big breakthrough in the AirFiber world that has been several years in the making.
